The Abbey of the Hills is hosting a Confirmation retreat on September 30, 2023.  They will be bringing in a NET team to facilitate the retreat. Eucharistic Revival – Year of the Parish Begins June 11
The Year of the Parish begins Sunday, June 11 on the Feast of Corpus Christi. The USCCB has encouraged each parish to host a Eucharistic Procession. The Knights of Columbus have put together a procession planning guide for your convenience. The USCCB has also encouraged participants to join in praying a Corpus Christi Novena. It begins June 2.

We have begun confirming with parishes who have requested a team the dates that a team will be available to them. If you did not get your request in, feel free to still send one in as there may be a few openings, or we can at least put you on a waitlist. The Sioux Falls women’s discernment group with the Pro Ecclesia Sancta Sisters is hosting a Mass, talk and dinner with Bishop DeGrood at the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in Sioux Falls on May 21 from 5-8 p.m. All young women seeking God’s call in their vocational life are invited to attend. Weekly “Power Hour” for Formation Leaders – Tuesdays at 1 p.m.
For a couple of years now, we have been holding weekly Zoom calls supporting our PCL’s throughout the diocese. These “Power Hours” are for priests and PCL’s and consist of ongoing formation, community, discussion, etc. Each week will be something a little different. These meetings are recorded for those who are unable to attend. Make sure to sign up on the PCL email list (see previous blurb) for information on which weeks these calls will be and for the Zoom links (the schedule varies a bit as we work around the School of Missionary Discipleship). Below is the schedule for the current semester:

January 10 – May 16 weekly at 1 p.m. with the exception of April 4, 25, and May 9.

Diocesan Confirmation Retreats
In collaboration with the diocese, St. Thomas More Parish in Brookings and Holy Name Parish in Watertown are providing Confirmation Retreats. They will be open to all parishes. Registrations are done through your parish, and the parish is required to send adult helpers with their youth to assist with small groups (one adult for every five youth). The parish is responsible for ensuring these adults have met the Safe Environment requirements laid out by the diocese. Registration forms for each retreat can be found on our webpage at: www.sfcatholic.org/youth/for-youth-leaders/. Parishes, please send in your completed registration forms by the dates listed on the forms. More details can be found here: www.sfcatholic.org/youth/confirmation-retreats/ 

If your parish is interested in hosting a confirmation retreat like this, we are willing to partner with you to put one on by suggesting a format, helping to find presenters, assisting with promotion, etc. You can reach our office at discipleship@sfcatholic.org. Another great option for parishes looking to host a retreat is to request a NET Ministries team to come in for a day. Their information can be found at netusa.org.

Going Deeper Retreat
Our Heart Speaks to Heart retreat will be held October 21-23, at O’Gorman Junior High. This retreat is focused on meditative and contemplative prayer and utilizes the teachings of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross. It is a silent retreat. Youth grades 9-12 who are active in the parish and looking to go deeper in their faith are invited to attend. Registrations can be found on our Going Deeper webpage.

We are excited to announce that we will be hosting our 4th Annual Last Collar Standing event on January 15, 2023 at 4 p.m. live on our YouTube page. March for Life Pilgrimage
It was with great joy that we received the news of the historic Dobbs decision overturning Roe vs Wade and giving individual states the right to enact laws regarding the protection of human life. With that in mind, the diocese has decided to focus its resources in support of local Respect Life efforts instead of organizing a pilgrimage to Washington D.C. for the annual March for Life. However, we are happy to work with you and your parish if you are interested in coordinating a pilgrimage.

Sean brings a variety of ministry experiences, and they both look forward to sharing with you how God has been working in and through their lives.

In order to better support the efforts of Confirmation Preparation around the diocese, we are asking each parish (either the pastor or confirmation coordinator) to complete a survey regarding confirmation preparation in their parish. A summary of the results will be shared with those who participate in the survey. The survey is open now and will close on Friday, May 13. Take the survey here. 

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Do you know anyone who may be interested in being trained as a CGS Catechist? There is a brand new cohort beginning this summer. This course is open to anyone just beginning training. There are also a few others being offered to continue Level 1 training from last summer.

Sean brings a variety of Ministry experiences and they both look forward to sharing with you how God has been working in and through their lives.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
CGS is a Catholic religious education program for children 3-12. It uses hands-on materials to help children grow in knowledge of liturgy and scripture through relationship, prayer, and discussion. Children meet weekly in a specially prepared environment called an atrium. In the atrium adult catechists present materials to children, either individually or in a small group allowing them to work with and meditate on scripture, liturgy and the life of the church. If you are interested in being trained as a CGS Catechist there will be a few training sessions in our diocese this summer.
