Undone: A Healing Retreat
October 15-17, 2021
Directed by Fr. Scott Traynor
Jesus desires to bring healing and restored wholeness to every person. Healing is central to Jesus’ life and mission. By our own sin or the sufferings of the human experience, our hearts can easily become wounded or distant from God, who alone can offer true restoration. Under the patronage of Our Lady, Undoer of Knots, this retreat will assist participants in becoming aware of Jesus’ desire to bring restoration in their lives and will offer opportunities to encounter His healing grace.
Conferences for the retreat will focus on the power of Jesus to heal in mind, body and spirit, and will offer participants practical ways to invite that grace into their own lives. A collaboration of Broom Tree Retreat Center and Catholic Family Services, this retreat will offer time for individual spiritual direction as well as one-on-one discussion with licensed Counselors from Catholic Family Services.
Technology Updates for March
Password Manager Changes
Over the years, I have often recommended a password manager called Last Pass. Unfortunately, Last Pass is making some changes to their free password manager. IF you use Last Pass, here are the changes you need to be aware of:
|
|
The Great Suspender
This is an internet browser extension that I have recommended in the past. Unfortunately, this software was sold to another organization about a year ago and Google determined that it recently started to see malware within this extension, and therefore it is being automatically disabled from the Google Chrome browser (only if you had it installed). You may have seen an alert when you opened Google Chrome that referenced the disabling of this extension. Feel free to call 988-3783 or email helpdesk@sfcatholic.org if you have any concerns and would like help to remove this disabled extension.
BEWARE OF FAKE CENTURYLINK CALLS
We are hearing multiple reports of scammers calling parishes and telling them that they are calling from Centurylink about your internet. They may say something like “the wires coming into your location were through Centurylink and they need to update your router to 5G. They will ask to log into your computer and give them access. They will tell you it won’t cost a thing and they just need to re-boot your router. DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO CONNECT TO YOUR COMPUTER. This is a scam. They will likely install software on your computer that allows them remote access and will track all activity.
Parish Bulletin Suggestion:
We continue to get reports of parishioners receiving email and text messages that appear to be from the pastor asking for Gift Cards. This is a scam that has been happening for a number of years. Please periodically remind your parishioners either in the bulletin or during announcements that the parish and the pastor will never solicit their members in this way.

Scheduled National Collections for 2021
Explanation
The Diocese of Sioux Falls has a three-tier approach to national collections approved by the USCCB or requested by the Holy See. For some collections, all parishes are expected to participate; other collections have been deemed optional for parishes to participate in, with discretion for holding them given explicitly to the pastor; for still others, no second collections are taken in the parishes. In lieu of not taking a collection in the parish, a donation from the proceeds raised through the Catholic Family Sharing Appeal is given by the diocese to the ministry beneficiary designated by the USCCB or the Holy See.
This practice, implemented at the recommendation of the Priest Council, limits the number of times parishioners are asked to make second offerings during Sunday Masses. It is hoped that in so doing, significance is raised in the minds of the faithful on those rare occasions when a second collection is requested. Yet the practice also holds true to the reality that there are needs within the universal Church to which all the baptized belong. Therefore, this approach to collections intends to emphasize the importance of participating in the Church’s mission throughout the world.
In 2021, the following national collections shall be taken (in accord with the expectation ascribed to it):
Expected parish participation:
- CRS (March 14)
- Holy Land (Good Friday, April 2)
- Home Missions (April 25)
- Peter’s Pence (June 27)
- World Missions (October 24)
Optional (at the discretion of the pastor):
- Catholic Campaign for Human Development (November 21)
- Archdiocese for the Military Services (every third year, not taken in 2021)
Donations sent on behalf of the diocese as part of the Catholic Family Sharing Appeal:
- Catholic Communication Campaign
- Black and Indian Mission Collection
- Catholic University of America
- Catholic Relief Services Collection
- Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe
- Retirement Fund for Religious
The diocese does not participate in the following USCCB-approved collections: (individuals may still do so by providing support directly to missions in these places)
- Collection for the Church in Latin America
- Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa
