Vocations

Dear Pastors and Parish Administrators,
This summer Bishop DeGrood will send a letter to the graduating seniors in our diocese so he can personally congratulate and encourage them to seek God’s will in their lives. To make this possible we are requesting the following information from you: names, cell phone number, parent’s names, addresses, gender and college plans for all seniors.
In conjunction with Bishop’s letter, in the past several years, the Vocations Office has used the college information to help keep our youth connected with their Catholic faith while they are at school. This has been done with the aid of the SERRA Clubs in our diocese through a program called College Connection.
Through this program, letters are sent out to the seniors, encouraging them to get involved in the local Catholic community at the school they will be attending. We also forward the information to the chaplains at the various colleges in our diocese to help them connect with the incoming freshmen.
It is our hope that with this information we can keep more of our young people connected with the practice of their Catholic faith and continue to encourage the growth of their spirituality.
Please e-mail the list in Excel format, if possible, to Emma Murtha at emurtha@sfcatholic.org or mail your list to the Vocations Office by May 1. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for all that you do to promote religious vocations.

Undone: A Healing Retreat
October 15-17, 2021
Directed by Fr. Scott Traynor

Jesus desires to bring healing and restored wholeness to every person. Healing is central to Jesus’ life and mission. By our own sin or the sufferings of the human experience, our hearts can easily become wounded or distant from God, who alone can offer true restoration. Under the patronage of Our Lady, Undoer of Knots, this retreat will assist participants in becoming aware of Jesus’ desire to bring restoration in their lives and will offer opportunities to encounter His healing grace.

Conferences for the retreat will focus on the power of Jesus to heal in mind, body and spirit, and will offer participants practical ways to invite that grace into their own lives. A collaboration of Broom Tree Retreat Center and Catholic Family Services, this retreat will offer time for individual spiritual direction as well as one-on-one discussion with licensed Counselors from Catholic Family Services.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Providing a healthy and safe environment in our parishes and schools is a ministry to which we are all called. To foster our common diocesan vision of Lifelong Catholic Missionary Discipleship Through God’s Love, the diocese will be marking Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. Please note and share with your parish, school or ministry the following events:

April 13 (Tuesday) 10:00 a.m. – Live streamed rosary for healing and protection, led by Deacon John Devlin. Join us as a group or individually via the diocesan YouTube channel at SFDiocese.

April 24 (Saturday) 4:00 p.m. – Live streamed Mass with Bishop DeGrood will be prayed for healing of victims/survivors and all affected by abuse.

Attached is a rosary for healing booklet and a novena for healing that can be provided to groups (especially prayer groups) in your parish. See attached Novena for Protection and Healing from Abuse to be used to post or insert into your bulletins.

Diocese of Sioux Falls Novena for Healing 2021

Rosary-for-Healing

Media to post on your website or share on social media, along with a date for a live streamed Rosary for Healing, will be forthcoming.

All parishes are encouraged to include an introduction/announcement in their bulletin in the month of April introducing the local coordinator at your parish, school or ministry.

Please plan to participate with us in prayer for the safety and wellbeing of all children, that they may flourish as healthy, happy and holy Catholics within our communities. Contact Safe Environment Coordinator Alison Conemac (aconemac@sfcatholic.org) with your questions.
