Safe Environment

Thank you to all the parish, schools and ministry staff throughout the diocese who assist with the annual certification in our Safe Environment Program! Your role is truly one of service. Your support for adult certification, minors’ training and onboarding new individuals (first-timers) to the requirement is nothing short of excellent. Your attention, care and involvement is critical for continuing to provide a safe environment for minors and vulnerable within our community.

There is still time to complete your certification! If you haven’t yet completed it, please do so and contact your local coordinator with questions.

24th Annual Christmas at the Cathedral – Dec. 17, 18, 19, 20

The 24th Christmas at the Cathedral will be performed with six concerts December 17-20 at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph. This year’s theme, “That’s My God” is an important message of hope, especially during this year of uncertainty and crisis. It reminds us that we are not alone and we should never give up hope. When it appeared as though the human race was doomed to self-destruction, God sent his own divine Son, incarnate in Jesus of Nazareth. He was homeless, an immigrant, born in a cave, a refugee. He entered into the darkness of our human disorder, bringing His eternal Light.

This is what motivates us and why we are excited to produce an inspiring and safe Christmas at The Cathedral 2020, with this year’s theme, “That’s My God!”  on December 17-20, at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph, or viewing, in the safety of your home, a private viewing of a special video production.

The live production will have a specially designed orchestra performing the specially arranged music compositions of Christmas at The Cathedral Music Director and Conductor, Dan Goeller. We are excited to welcome back internationally acclaimed tenor, Scott Piper, and feature for the first time soprano, Janette Obermueller, a former Walt Disney World performer.

COVID-19 safety protocols are being implemented at all concerts, based on the latest federal, state and city health recommendations. Attendance is being limited to 50% of capacity. For those with elevated risks and other health concerns, three of the concerts have been designated for mandatory masks. For the latest detailed safety protocols, please visit our website: www.ccfesd.org/events/christmas-at-the-cathedral/.

Tickets or private viewing code can be purchased on-line at www.ccfesd.org, by phone 605.988.3765, email events@ccfesd.org, or by stopping at the Catholic Community Foundation Office (523 N Duluth Ave).

Necrology Report needed

Each year in the November issue of The Bishop’s Bulletin we feature a complete listing of those of our diocesan family who have died during the past year. We need your assistance in compiling that list.

Please check your records and list the names of all members of your parish(es)/community who have died on or after October 1, 2019, through those who have died on or before September 30, 2020.

Please list (per parish/religious community)

  • Names of the dead (no nicknames, only proper names, like Helen Jones, not Mrs. Johnny Jones, or Jones, Helen).
  • Date of his/her death in chronological order. Day of the week is not needed.
  • For example your report should look like this: Helen Jones- Oct. 24; Jim Smith- Nov. 18; Carol Nelson- Jan. 17

Please respond even if your parish/community has recorded no deaths in this time period. Simply state “no deaths.”

Please send your report in a word document or type it directly into the email so it can be easily copied and formatted for the Bishop’s Bulletin, and indicate your parish(es)/community in the email subject line.

Brianna will respond to your email when she has received it. If you don’t hear from her, she did not get it.

We need your necrology information by October 8 or sooner. Please email Brianna Wingen at bwingen@sfcatholic.org or mail to Bishop’s Bulletin Necrology, 523 N. Duluth Ave., Sioux Falls, SD 57104 with your completed Necrology report.

Thank you for your help with getting this report compiled. If you have any questions, call Brianna at 605-988-3789 or email at bwingen@sfcatholic.org.
