Chancery Updates

  • As parish staffs adjust to the new pastorate structure, many questions are sure to arise. We are planning staff in-service meetings in early August to help you make the transition. Watch your email for more information very soon!
  • Continue to keep your new pastors and all priests in your prayers as they settle into their new assignments. And pray that the Holy Spirit will fill us all with a spirit of openness and courage.

Mass times on diocesan website

As you are transitioning into the new pastorates, you may be wondering whether you should send your new Mass times to the Chancery to update the diocesan website (sfcatholic.org). The answer is yes and no, depending on your situation.

We will be doing something a little different with these pages going forward. If a parish has a website (whether its own or combined with other parishes), we will link the parish listing on the diocesan website to your website. That way as soon as a visitor clicks on your parish (from the diocesan website), they will be taken directly to your website to see Mass times and any other information you have on your site.

If you do not have a website for a parish, don’t worry! We will continue to update your Mass times on the diocesan website until your pastorate-wide website is created.

With those changes in mind, please be sure to keep your websites up-to-date, and send the Chancery any Mass time changes for any parish you are responsible for that does not have a website. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Renae (rkranz@sfcatholic.org) or Elise (eheier@sfcatholic.org).

Tribunal procedure changes

With the transition of Heather from the Tribunal, several procedures will be altered. For permission for mixed religion weddings/dispensation for disparity of cult/dispensation from form, please send all requests to Thad Pals at the Chancery. Likewise, all pre-marital files that are between dioceses should be routed through the Chancery. Petitions for declaration of nullity should be sent to the Tribunal. Processing these cases may be delayed, so please allow for plenty of time. Any questions regarding Tribunal procedures or the status of cases should be directed to Father Tschakert at his cell phone: 605-228-7655.

Job opportunity

Real Presence Radio is seeking an energetic person to assist our Advancement Team with spreading the word about RPR, which includes fundraising for our spring and fall Live Drives, banquets in Sioux Falls and Aberdeen, securing major gifts, planned giving and working various trade shows. If you sense a call to serve God in this capacity, please email a cover letter, your resume and three references to joyce@realpresenceradio.com. If you have any questions or would like further information, please call Joyce at 877-795-0122.

Bank account transfers

In order to help the priests’ as they transition from their current parish to their new pastorates, one of the most important items to take care of are the bank accounts so the new pastor can sign checks right away.

Not all banks are the same and some may have their own requirements to do this. I would suggest that you make a call to your bank and ask what their policy/procedure is for making this transition.

With that in mind, I have provided a sample document (see link below) that many banks (but not all) will accept to transfer the parish accounts from the outgoing pastor to the incoming pastor’s name.

Feel free to manipulate it however you need based on the number of accounts and number of signors desired, etc. The banks will need the entire social security number as well as a copy of the driver’s licenses of all those being added to the account. Please note that bringing in a copy of the minutes from the finance council confirming the new signor on the account will be beneficial.

Helping father out with this important task will be greatly appreciated.

Thad Pals, Chancellor

These counts will provide accurate data as Set Ablaze pastoral planning gets underway and continue to help pastors and parishes see if they are making progress in their initiatives. The form to enter those counts is included below. Thank you for your efforts!
