EOY Contribution Statements and Data Cleanup How to’s

As we come to the end of 2021 and move into 2022 I am sure we are all itching to get our year-end statements wrapped up and out.  The IRS does recommend a detailed contribution statement be sent and on the statement, you should have some sort of language that indicates that no goods or services were provided by the organization.

With that in mind, we have put together a couple of how-to articles for you.  We will post these out on the Web Portal for easier access. ParishSOFT EOY Resources

  1. View Active and Registered Parishioners – This article will walk through how to apply various filters to see which parishioners in your database are registered/not registered, active, deceased, inactive, etc and make sure all is accurate as possible.
  2. Generate Contribution Reports – This is to try and help walk you through the end of the year process for printing statements to be mailed out to your parishioners.

Currently, for year-end statements, ParishSOFT has an issue with the report.  It is doubling up the totals for some families and displaying the contributions twice for some others.  ParishSOFT is aware of the issue and is currently working on a fix.  This is out of our hands and will keep you updated when we know more about the fix.

We are also looking for any ideas on other step-by-step instructions that would help with any of the processes within the ParishSOFT system.  Please email me with these ideas and we will see what we can do to satisfy any of these needs.

Happy New Year and God bless.

School of Missionary Discipleship
The School of Missionary Discipleship will be launching January 25. Year one consists of weekly meetings beginning Tuesday, January 25 through May 3. Classes will be meeting via zoom 6:30-7:30 pm. Years two through four consist of quarterly days of formation and monthly virtual meetings.

Participants are deeply formed in their ability to engage in the work of the New Evangelization: to live and share their faith in Jesus Christ with those they encounter in their daily lives, according to the gifts God has given them.

The formation program is attentive to all four areas of discipleship formation: a thorough knowledge of Church teaching (intellectual formation), a deep personal prayer life (spiritual formation), an ability to interact with and accompany others (human formation), and a recognition of the personal call and empowerment to build up God’s kingdom (apostolic formation).

All areas of formation will be engaged throughout the multi-year program. Each year will have a specific focus of formation.

      1. Learning How to Pray and How to Teach Others to Pray – A year-long (two semester) exploration of how to grow deeply in prayer.
      2. Sacred Scripture and Church History – An overview of the story of salvation from creation to today.
      3. The Catechism of the Catholic Church – An exploration of Church teaching.
      4. Sharing your Faith – A practical introduction to talking with others about our faith.

Vocations

Do you know a young man who has expressed interest in discerning a vocation to the priesthood? Do you know a young man who you think would make a great priest and might be open to investigating the possibility of this call in his life? As part of our work to help young men discern the Lord’s call for their lives, the Vocations Office is compiling a list of such men with the intent of keeping them informed about various vocations promotion opportunities such as retreats, mission trips, Operation Andrew Dinners, seminary visits, and so on. If you know of someone who we should add to our list, please contact Emma Murtha at emurtha@sfcatholic.org or 988-3772.

SJV Seminary Visit

Do you know of any young men in your parish who has considered (or should consider) a vocation to the priesthood? There is a seminary visit planned February 16th-18th to St. John Vianney & St. Paul Seminaries in St. Paul. No cost to them. Transportation provided from Sioux Falls. Please refer anyone interested to Fr. Tony Klein at frtonyklein@sfcatholic.org or Emma Murtha at emurtha@sfcatholic.org. If you have any questions yourself about the trip, please reach out to Fr. Tony or Emma.

Operation Andrew Dinner

As part of our work to help young men discern the Lord’s call for their lives, the Vocations Office is organizing some upcoming Operation Andrew Dinners.

Operation Andrew Dinner at St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center in Aberdeen on Tuesday January 31st from 6-8 p.m.

Operation Andrew Dinner at St. Thomas More Newman Center in Vermillion on February 23rd from 6-8 p.m.

If you know of a man that would be a great priest and should be invited to one of these dinners please contact your priest.

Prayer for Vocations

Looking for a good prayer to use for an increase in vocations? Here’s one many of our parishes have been using for years.

Lord Jesus, Son of the Eternal Father and Mary Immaculate, grant to our young people the generosity necessary to follow Your call and the courage to overcome all obstacles to their vocation in life. Give their parents that faith, love and spirit of sacrifice which will inspire them to offer their children to God’s service and to rejoice whenever one of their children is called to the priesthood or religious life. Let Your example and that of Your Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph encourage both young people and parents and let Your grace sustain them.  Amen.
