For Parish Leaders

Welcome and thank you for your work with the children, youth and adults of your parishes!

Below you will find links to the general resources and offerings of the Office of Discipleship & Evangelization.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if there is anything that we can do for you!

New PCL portal!

We are excited to announce that we have created a new PCL portal that will hopefully serve as a one stop shop for all the active PCL’s in the Diocese.  Those who are currently on the PCL email list have all been sent an invitation to join this platform and create your account.

This portal houses many useful resources, the Power hour recordings, RE curriculum guidelines and suggestions, and much more.

If you are an active PCL in the Diocese and have not been added to this portal please reach out to our office to request access. We can be reached either by phone at 605-988-3714 or by email at discipleship@sfcatholic.org

Diocesan Summer Confirmation Retreats

Dates:

June 22, 2024 – St. Agnes Parish, Vermillion

July 27, 2024 – Our Lady of Good Counsel, Elkton

Lumen Christi is partnering with a couple Parishes this summer to provide Confirmation Retreats that are open to the whole diocese.  Lunch will be provided.  The day will consist of testimonies, talks, games, times for small group, lunch, and a holy hour.

Please mark your calendars with these dates to offer to the families in your parish that have youth in need of a confirmation retreat.

Adult helpers/Parents are invited and encouraged to attend as small group helpers.  They will also register (for free) once registration is open.  All adults who attend must be Safe Environment Certified through the Diocese.

Registration for both can be found below.

Other Confirmation Retreat Opportunities in the Diocese

The Diocese is more than happy to advertise parishes and other organizations Confirmation Retreat opportunities that are open to the public.  Please send us the information and we will share them with our audiences and the other parishes. You will find a list of the active ones below:

  • The Abbey of the Hills is hosting a “Never Alone” Confirmation Retreat, February 8, 2025. Registration is open to all. See below for buttons to a flyer and a link to register.

Confirmation Retreat Ideas and NET Teams

If your parish is interested in hosting a confirmation retreat and is looking for assistance, the Diocese is willing to partner with you to put one on by suggesting a format, helping to find presenters, assisting with promotion, etc.  Please reach out to our office at discipleship@sfcatholic.org with your inquiries.

Another great option for parishes looking to host a retreat is to request a NET Ministries team to come in for a day. NET is an international ministry out of Minnesota and their information can be found at netusa.org. The point of contact for you would be Molly Gallagher who is the Eastern Regional Office Administrator.  She can be reached at 651-450-6833  ext. 203 or at mollyg@netusa.org

Parish Catechetical Leaders (PCL) Email List

If you are not already receiving the Parish Catechetical Leaders (PCL) Emails, click the “PCL Email Signup” button below to get on the list!  This email list is used to keep you informed about the many things happening in the Office of Discipleship and Evangelization and throughout the Diocese.  We are striving to send out updates as we get them in lieu of a newsletter.

Weekly Parish Leader Zoom Meetings – Power Hours

Tuesdays at 1pm during the school year there will be a meeting for all parish leaders and pastors around the diocese.  The format of these meetings will be alternating between a Power Hour with a predetermined topic, and the following week a “public office hour” format for those who have questions.

  • The “predetermined topic” week will be either a topic that a number of you have been asking about, or something that we want to make you all aware of and discuss with you. So, it’ll be similar to what we’ve been doing, with an initial framing & presentation of the topic by the host and then discussion around it.

  • In the “public office hours” week, you’ll be free to get on the call and ask the host a question about all things PCL, and the host will offer their thoughts and then open it up to the rest of the group to see if there are any other insights. And when I send the recording link out, we’ll note the topics that were discussed.

These meetings are recorded and available in the new PCL portal.  These meetings are not held during the summer months of mid May – early September

To get involved in these meetings, please ensure you are on the PCL email list . If you have topics or ideas to bring to the meeting, please let Dr. Chris know by emailing  cburgwald@sfcatholic.org
