Youth Ministry Scholarship Application Process

Thanks to the donors from across the Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls, the Catholic Community Foundation for Eastern South Dakota, and the Jackson Lee Vetch Memorial Fund, we are able to offer scholarships to those in need of financial assistance in order to attend Diocesan youth events.

How Do I Apply?

Who Qualifies for a Scholarship?

Any youth (under 18) from the Diocese of Sioux Falls.  The scholarship must be for a Diocesan Youth Event.

Who Should Apply for a Scholarship?

This is a common question.  We recommend that an applicant begin by talking to their pastor, DRE, or Youth Minister about scholarships first.  Many parishes are willing to pay half or more of a registration fee for youth events.  There may also be organizations like the Knights of Columbus that would be willing to help.  We recommend that the applicant look at what they can afford to pay, then see what local help they can receive, and then apply for the rest.  For larger scholarship requests, it is likely that we will contact the parish first to see if they are helping or able to help.

How Much Should I Ask For?

When the funds are available, an applicant may receive anything from one-third to one-half of the registration fee with a max of $250.

How Is the Amount Received Determined?

The application asks about the financial need, involvement in the parish, and desire to grow.  All of these are factors in the decision process.

How/When Will I Know If I Received The Scholarship?

You should receive an email 1-2 weeks after the application has been received.  If you do not receive an email, feel free to contact our office at 605.988.3766.

Where Does The Money Come From?

Bishop Emeritus Paul Swain set up a Youth Ministry Events Fund through the Catholic Foundation of Eastern South Dakota.  Donors may contribute to this fund at anytime.  To learn more about this fund and/or to contribute towards it, contact the Catholic Foundation at 605-988-3788.  We also have been blessed to receive donations every year from the Jackson Lee Vetch Memorial Fund which allows us to give scholarships to students in need.
