This journey of experiencing God’s love can be filled with hope and joy. Unfortunately, there is sometimes also a depravity of a true understanding of who we are as male and female. But we can take heart even in these confusing times we live in because we know we are not alone. God is ever-present with us, encouraging and loving us as the beautiful persons He has created us to be in His image. When we discover and love who we are as male…

In the book of Genesis we read about how God, out of His infinite and creative love, created everything that exists. At the end of each day, He said, “It is good.” After He created man and woman, however, He said, “It is very good.” (cf. Gen. 1:31)Why “very good”? Because unlike every other creature on earth, you and I have all been created by God in His image and likeness because of his love for us. The goal of our lives should be to receive God’s love, relish that…

We are fast approaching Holy Week and the great feast days of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday, and this seems like a perfect time to continue my teaching series on Truth, Goodness and Beauty of our Catholic faith by focusing on the Holy Mass. Many of us have spent years or even decades attending Mass. It has simply been an automatic part of our weekly or even daily lives. For others—the young among us, or new Catholics—the Mass is still a new reality. Either way, our participation in the Mass and the difference it makes in our lives can be enriched by a deeper…

I sensed I should focus on the True, the Good and the Beautiful, sometimes called the “transcendentals” as taught by our awesome Catholic faith. The True, the Good and the Beautiful proceed from God and “spill over” into everything He created. You might think of it this way:The True or truth is defined objectively as the conformity of the mind to reality (what is true as God knows it to be).The Good possesses a positive quality or perfection that renders something attractive or worthy of value. The Beautiful can…

Statements and Documents
Saturday, December 12, 2020 Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe On December 12, 2020, Bishop DeGrood will be privately offering prayers of deliverance from evil over everyone and everything in our diocese. He is offering the prayers of deliverance so any evil influence will be removed, allowing everyone in our diocese to live in the freedom of God’s grace and love. As St. Paul reminds us, there is a spiritual battle raging around us: “For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens.” (Eph 6:12) As our bishop, Bishop DeGrood is a successor to the Apostles, and the Apostles handed on to the bishops the authority which they…
