Ordination to the Priesthood The Ordination to the Priesthood of Rev. Mr. Michael Kapperman and Rev. Mr. Tony Klein will be Friday, May 29 at 11:00AM at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph. Ordination to the Diaconate The Ordination to the Diaconate of Jacob Doty, Scott Miller and Jeff Schulte will be Thursday, May 28 at 11:00Am at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph. With the changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing guidelines, Masses are by invitation only - including diocesan clergy & seminary representatives. Both Masses will be livestreamed here on the diocesan website as well as our YouTube Channel. No public or diocesan hosted receptions will be held.

Public Masses with Social DistancingEveryone should knowBishop DeGrood has dispensed the Sunday Mass obligation due to pandemic conditions. Live streamed Masses will continue for those at risk and unable to attend in person.Pastors, with guidance, may begin to offer Masses starting May 15 or later with social distance measures in place. Suspending public Masses and public events that are parish- and diocesan-sponsored comes with many ramifications.  The following list clarifications is offered specifically for the Diocese of Sioux Falls.  This list is subject to amendment and revision with time and as Bishop DeGrood gathers more insights from pastors and parish experiences. Personal Prayer in Church Buildings/Chapels Where it is the local custom, church buildings may remain open during the day for private prayer and devotion at the discretion of the pastor. Televised Masses The Diocese-sponsored Sunday TV Mass will continue to be prayed and broadcast via television and via online streaming. You are invited to stop by The Bishop’s House for a Christmas Open House on Sunday, December 31 from 1-5 p.m., and following the morning Masses at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. The Bishop’s House is located at 423 N. Duluth Ave, Sioux Falls and has been home to the last five bishops of the Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls, including current bishop, Most Reverend Paul J. Vatican Synod on Youth/Young Adults Pope Francis is calling a general assembly (Synod) of the bishops on the theme, “Youth, Faith, and Vocational Discernment”. This Synod will take place in October of 2018. In preparation for the synod, the Vatican has asked that young adults from around the world participate in this survey. The Church wishes to listen to the voices of young people, their sensitivities, their faith, even their doubts and criticisms.
