Joint Statement of Dispensation - March 13, 2020 Resources are available online Praying at Home – the Mass and Other Prayer Ideas Dispensation from the Obligation to attend Sunday Masses due to the COVID-19/Coronavirus until further notice Earlier this week and in our respective capacities as spiritual leaders of the two dioceses in South Dakota, we announced measures for limiting the spread of illness during Masses. These statements were circulated within parishes and can be accessed on the two diocesan websites. With public health officials providing additional guidance this week that has led to the cancellation of sporting and cultural events, we write to offer further clarification and guidance. Donald DeGrood as the ninth bishop of the Diocese of Sioux Falls.  Until now Bishop-elect DeGrood has been a priest of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, most recently serving as pastor of St. John the Baptist, Savage, MN. He will succeed Bishop Paul Swain, whose resignation the Holy Father accepted today with the appointment of a new bishop.  Bishop Swain had submitted his resignation, per canon law, upon reaching the age of 75 in September of 2018.  He will be the apostolic administrator of the diocese until Bishop-elect DeGrood is ordained and installed.
