Upcoming Events – Chrism Mass ~ March 14

His Excellency, Bishop Donald E. DeGrood, will preside over the Chrism Mass on Thursday, March 14, 20224 at 11:00 am at the Cathedral of St. Joseph.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

9:45 am Reconciliation Service / Contemplative Time for Clergy
11:00 am Chrism Mass ~ Followed by Luncheon and Speaker

The post-luncheon speaker is Jonathan J. Reyes, PhD, Senior Vice President of Evangelization and Faith Formation for the Knights of Columbus.

In order to assist with the preparations for the Chrism Mass, please RSVP by going to this LINK or print and return the form by mail, e-mail, or fax (605-334-2092) by March 7, 2024.

Please bring your parish’s (or parishes’) ampullae or bottles to transport the Holy Oils home with you for placement in your ambry. You may also appoint someone to do this for you. Please assure that the vessels used are worthy, clean, and can be reasonably secure from spilling (i.e. no prescription bottles). It is important to properly dispose of last year’s Holy Oils by burning them or pouring them into the ground. The ampullae used to pick up the new Holy Oils must not contain any of the old.

If your parish or parishes do not have their own ampullae, we will provide small bottles for you. It is important that you fill out the RSVP form at this LINK so that we can plan for the appropriate number of bottles, boxes, and food.

If parish representatives are picking up oils for their parish, they should use the entrance on the East side of the Parish Hall rather than the stairs that come down near the north entrance to the Cathedral. The oils will be available after Mass in the Parish Hall in the vestibule off of the Duluth Avenue entrance. Boxed sets will be available and those who will be bringing empty ampullae can have their vessels filled after Mass.

Since we are having lunch after the Chrism Mass, please bring your vessels to the parish hall before the penance service at 9:45 am or before Mass begins so that they can be filled during the meal. There will be a place to deposit the small bottles that have been provided in the past. Some of the chancery staff will be on hand to fill bottles and keep the ampullae grouped together by parishes. Please place your empty ampullae in a case or box with the name(s) of your parish(es) on them, so that you can pick them up after the meal or after Mass if you are not able to stay.

For concelebrating priests and deacons assisting and processing, please bring your own alb and white stole (with amice and cincture, if needed). You will vest in the Parish Hall.
