***Re-Posted from 1/23/23***
Dear Fathers: The bishop’s office has received a few notes from the faithful concerned that the outdated Order of Penance may be being used in some instances. I am re-sending a memo from the USCCB Committee on Divine Worship that was first shared on the Clergy Only Bulletin Board in January 2023. The revised, approved words of absolution are:
“God, the Father of mercies,
through the Death and Resurrection of his Son
has reconciled the world to himself
and poured out the Holy Spirit for the forgiveness of sins;
through the ministry of the Church
may God grant you pardon and peace.
AND I ABSOLVE YOU FROM YOUR SINS,
IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, AND OF THE SON, +
AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.”

Thank you for your ministry.
In Christ,
