Palm Sunday and Triduum Liturgies

Palm Sunday and Triduum Liturgies

Frontpage News
Palm Sunday and Triduum Liturgies Earlier this week, I informed the clergy of my decision to continue the suspension of public Masses, including through the upcoming Holy Week.  The suspension will remain in effect until further notice.  This decision was based upon recent clarifications regarding social distancing practices that have been provided from our elected officials and those competent in public health that contributed to their development.  For your reference, an outline of the directives and clarifications regarding liturgies to be celebrated during Holy Week which I provided clergy has been posted on the Diocesan website and can be accessed here. St. Maria Faustina Kowalska

St. Maria Faustina Kowalska

Can we be saints?
By Renae KranzWhen I decided to write this month’s post about St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, it was originally because it would be posted just before Holy Week and the beginning of the Divine Mercy Novena which starts on Good Friday. Events are cancelled. The world is at a standstill.Worst of all, public Masses are not available to the faithful. So many things are unknown right now. We’re trying to hold it together, but we may feel fear and helplessness in a way we’ve never experienced. It’s the perfect time to look more deeply at…

Changes in Light of the Suspension of Public Masses

Uncategorized
Suspending public Masses and public events that are parish- and diocesan-sponsored comes with many ramifications.  The following list clarifications is offered specifically for the Diocese of Sioux Falls.  This list is subject to amendment and revision with time and as Bishop DeGrood gathers more insights from pastors and parish experiences. Personal Prayer in Church Buildings/Chapels Where it is the local custom, church buildings may remain open during the day for private prayer and devotion at the discretion of the pastor. Televised Masses The Diocese-sponsored Sunday TV Mass will continue to be prayed and broadcast via television and via online streaming. Similarly, local pastors and staff may develop means by which private Masses prayed in parish churches can be broadcast to parishioners. Funerals Masses of Christian Burials may be prayed with…

Act of Spiritual Communion

Videos
[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VoZCCOjRmo[/embed] As Catholics living in the United States of America, most of us are used to having ready access to our Lord in the sacraments, most especially in the Eucharist, in which Jesus is truly, really present in His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic, we are now experiencing a reality which countless other Catholics around the world and throughout time have had to endure: the inability to receive Jesus in the Eucharist on a regular basis. So while we hope and pray with confidence that we will soon be able to attend, pray and participate at Mass as we are used to, in the meantime we are able to become familiar with and participate in a practice which is likewise widespread throughout the world and…
