Philothea School of Formation

The Philothea School of Formation is an opportunity for youth to grow deeper in their faith through community and mentorship.  They will join many other young people from across the diocese who are also committed to this journey and receive guidance from several priests and other faithful adults through online learning and discussion as well as regular one-on-one mentorship from an adult.

A page with much more details and information regarding the School of Formation is coming soon.

In short, young people are encouraged to apply if they are desiring to grow in their faith and are willing to commit to 1) a regular meeting with a mentor and 2) online discussions on topics of the faith.

FAQ

Q. What is the time commitment?

A.  Students will be required to meet with a mentor at least once a month and participate in online discussion forums regularly (about once a week).  There are currently no requirements to attend other gatherings or events.

Q. Who will be my mentor?

A.  We will work you to identify a good mentor for this program.  Ideally the mentor would be someone you already know.  Do not worry if you do not have anyone in mind.

Q. What are the expectations of the mentor?

A. The role of the mentor is to hold the student accountable to certain aspects of the faith.  They are also required to “report” on how the student is doing along the way.

Q. How do I know if I qualify or if I should apply?

A. Students should apply if they are willing to submit to the basic requirements of the program and are applying on their own initiative (not because a parent or other leader is requiring them to apply).  We also require a recommendation from the pastor and permission from parents/guardians for students to participate (will be done after application process).
