NFP-Only Physicians
Natural Family Planning (NFP)
The Catholic Church promotes Natural Family Planning (NFP) as a moral way to plan for children in accordance
with God's will for your family. Not only is it highly effective, practical, low cost, and healthy, it also strengthens a marriage and a
couple's spirituality by welcoming God into the most intimate spousal acts and decisions.
The Church often stands alone in evangelizing and catechizing society to the dangers of the contraceptive
culture in which we live. Unfortunately, even Catholics fail to see, or reject, the gift of our human sexuality, and God's plan for how
this gift should be practiced in the marital union. We encourage all married couples, and those preparing for marriage, to learn Church
teachings on NFP and to seek reliable training in NFP methods. We hope the following information is helpful in opening your hearts and
minds to this wonderful gift from God.
The Diocese of Sioux Falls promotes NFP through the Office of Family & Children Faith Formation and the
Respect Life Office (contact information below). It is diocesan policy that couples participate in NFP training as part of successful
completion of the pre-marriage instruction program. In addition, the diocese primarily promotes two methods of NFP instruction:
the Sympto-Thermal Method (Couple to Couple League) and the Creighton Model of the Ovulation Method (teacher contact information below).

Helping couples to deepen conjugal love and achieve responsible parenthood is part of the Church's total pastoral ministry to Catholic spouses. Fulfillment of this ministry includes both education and pastoral care. Sympto-thermal Method
Couple to Couple League - "CCL"
CCL teachers are married couples that teach awareness of fertility and infertility patterns, and are also trained
to alert for possible medical problems. This method involves charting the wife's body temperature and natural fertility indicators (mucus),
and is 99% effective in postponing pregnancy (when for just reasons, spouses may wish to space their children, CCC #2368), and may also help
couples achieve pregnancy if/when they’ve had difficulty. It is 100% natural and safe, and low in cost.

Creighton Model of the Ovulation Method
Creighton Model Fertility Care practitioners provide NFP instruction in a series of private,
personalized sessions with long-term professional follow-up care available. This method, which follows an allied health
care model called NaPro Technology, involves charting natural fertility indicators (mucus), and has a high success rate
not only in achieving and avoiding pregnancy (when for just reasons, spouses may wish to space their children, CCC #2368),
but also in treating infertility, chronic miscarriage, ovarian cysts, and other gynecologic problems.
