Bishop Samuel J. Aquila, apostolic
administrator for the Diocese of Sioux Falls, re-named Father
Charles Cimpl the vicar general of the Catholic Diocese of
Sioux Falls.
Father Cimpl is pastor of St. Michael Parish, Sioux Falls.
He was originally named vicar general in June by Bishop Robert
J. Carlson. However, with Bishop Carlson’s appointment
as fifth bishop of Saginaw, the vicar general appointment
ceased to be in effect.
The apostolic administrator has the authority to reappoint
a vicar general and confer delegated power upon that priest
until the new bishop takes possession of the diocese.
Father Cimpl will continue to serve the diocese in both capacities
as a pastor and as vicar general.
The vicar general serves as an advisor to the bishop, and
is member of the diocesan finance council and priest council.
He also serves as a representative in the absence of the bishop.
By serving as vicar general since last summer, Father Cimpl
is already familiar with the requirements of the position
although things will be slightly different now that the diocese
is under the guidance of an apostolic administrator.
