Bishop’s charity fishing tourney gears up for seminarian education

The diocese goes fishing for a few good men again in June during the 8th Annual “Bishop’s Charity Fishing Tournament.”
The event, which is sponsored by Avera Health, Big Stone Therapies, Rausch Granite Interiors and Puetz Corporation is scheduled for Monday, June 14th at Schmidt’s Landing, Big Stone Lake and Monday, June 28th, at West Whitlock Resort on Lake Oahe near Gettysburg.
Proceeds from the tournaments will go towards the formation and education of diocesan seminarians.
The committees have set a goal of raising enough money to support two seminarians next year (approximately $44,000).
In addition to registering by mail, you can also register on-line at www.sfcatholic.org or by phone at 1-888-246-3386.
The diocese currently has 26 men studying for the priesthood, with two of the men being ordained for the priesthood on June 11th of this year.
Bishop Carlson has made seminarian education a priority in the diocese. “We are excited that this event is helping to support the goals set forth by Bishop Carlson and building a future full of hope for the people of the prairie,” said Val Rausch, Big Stone Fishing Committee co-chair.
