Broom Tree Retreat and Conference
Center recently received a new entrance look thanks to a family
from Pierre.
Milton and Dawn Morris of Morris, Inc., Fort Pierre, had a
granite boulder entrance marker delivered to the property.
Six months ago, Milton Morris was asked about carving the
Stations of the Cross out of granite boulders to be placed
at the retreat center . He said it was possible and went a
step further supporting the idea of a granite boulder as the
new entrance marker fro the property.
Louis Still Smoking, the artist at Morris, Inc. set about
drawing the 14 Stations of the Cross plus the rising Christ.
The drawings depict the last hours of Christ’s life.
The goal is to eventually get the granite rocks between 5
and 7 feet in dimension with a rock bench located at each
station.
The rocks will be cut and flamed to give the rock a flat face,
allowing for a natural look. Then the rocks will be carved
with the original art work through sand blasting. Along with
the artwork, the station number and name will be carved on
each rock.
The cost of each station and bench will be just under $7,600.
Each will have room at the bottom for lettering “in
memory of...” and the donor’s name to be included.
“The granite Stations of the Cross will become a reality
by the donations or individuals, families or parishes that
would care to sponsor a station,” said Dawn Morris.
“These stations will allow a lasting memory for years
and years to come beyond our life time.”
