The “10th Annual Bishop’s
Charity Golf Classic” is set for Monday, August 23.
The Catholic Foundation for Eastern South Dakota, which coordinates
the event, says it is expanding the tournament to include
both Westward Ho and Minnehaha Country Clubs.
The partnership between two private clubs is being called
“extraordinary” and will allow “The Bishop’s
Charity Golf Classic” to accommodate the many people
wishing to participate and help the young people of our region.
Golfers will have the opportunity to participate in one of
three events:
1. “The Bishop’s Scramble.” It is the most
popular of the tournament’s format and includes 4-person
teams “competing” in a Texas Scramble format.
2. “The Bishop’s Cup.” This part of the
event encourages friendly competition among golfers representing
parishes across the diocese. They compete for two crystal
cups in a 4-person, 2-best ball format.
3. “The Par 3 Bishop’s Challenge.” This
shorter course event involves less of a time commitment on
the Westward Ho Par 3 course. There will be shotgun start
with 4-person teams “competing” in a Texas Scramble
format.
The three simultaneous tournaments will culminate in a festival
atmosphere around the Westward Ho pool. The golfers will hear
from Bishop Carlson and some of the young people who are the
beneficiaries of “The Bishop’s Charity Golf Classic.”
Proceeds from this year’s event will go towards the
ecumenical youth/family camp being developed at Broom Tree
Retreat Center near Irene.
