| Jesuit priest who served diocese celebrates
50th anniversary |
| |
Father Edward A. Larkin S.J., recently
celebrated the 50th anniversary of his ordination as a priest.
The celebration included the celebration of Mass in St. John’s
Church on the Creighton University campus and a reception that
followed.
A native of Omaha, NE, Father Larkin attended St. Louis University,
St. Louis, MO and Northern State University, Aberdeen.
He later studied Sacred Scripture at the Jesuit School of Theology,
Berkeley, CA.
Father Larkin’s career as a Jesuit included 10 years as
principal at the St. Francis Mission in Rosebud, vice principle
at Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien, WI., and
22 years as a teacher, counselor, and coach at Marquette High
School in Milwaukee.
However, Father Larkin considers the highlight of his life the
10 years he spent traveling to more than 30 parishes in South
Dakota, teaching Sacred Scripture. “Those years were some
of the best years of my priesthood,” he said, “because
I was able to work with so many families and teach them the
Word of God.”
Father Larkin currently hears confessions and assists at Masses
at St. John’s Parish on the campus of Creighton University. |
