Members of the law enforcement and first responder communities (pictured, on the left) stand as Bishop Paul J. Swain processes in to the Blue Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph.

The Blue Mass offers prayer for all those in government who protect our society including police, firefighters, first responders and those who support their service.

Pictured on the right, Bishop Swain also prayed and celebrated the traditional White Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph.

The White Mass is a special opportunity to pray and give thanks for the men and women who serve our communities in the medical and healing professions.

It was celebrated this year in the Diocese of Sioux Falls on the feast day of St. Luke, believed to be a doctor himself, and who serves as the patron of patients, doctors, nurses, staff and all caregivers.
